This 3-Ingredient Strawberry Dump Cake is one of those easy dessert recipes that is incredibly easy and always disappears fast. Made with strawberry pie filling, yellow cake mix, and melted butter, this strawberry dump cake recipe bakes into a warm, buttery dessert with a crisp golden topping and soft strawberry filling underneath.

This is the kind of shortcut dessert I make when I need something quick for a potluck or family gathering. If you’ve already made my Cherry Dump Cake, Chocolate Cherry Dump Cake, Blueberry Dump Cake, Mixed Berry Dump Cake, or Peach Dump Cake, this easy strawberry dump cake is another one to add to the list. I always say it's kind of like a strawberry cobbler to the uninitiated.
The best part is you don’t have to wait for strawberry season because canned strawberry pie filling does all the work for you. Serve it warm with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an easy dessert everyone will want seconds of.

Shortcut Notes
- Only 3 ingredients: This strawberry dump cake recipe uses boxed cake mix and canned strawberry pie filling for a super easy dessert.
- No mixing bowls required: Everything goes straight into the baking dish, which means fewer dishes to wash later.
- Low effort: This easy dump cake feeds a crowd with very little prep time.
Ingredient Breakdown

- Yellow cake mix: A boxed yellow cake mix creates the buttery cake mix crust-like topping. The box shown above is butter golden which is also a great option.
- Strawberry pie filling: Canned pie filling gives this strawberry dessert its sweet flavor without needing fresh berries.
- Unsalted butter: Melted butter creates the crisp, buttery topping.

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

Pour both cans of strawberry pie filling into a 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the pie filling. Press down firmly with your hands or a spatula, leveling as much as possible.

Pour the melted butter evenly over the dry cake mix. Use the back of a spoon to gently spread the butter over any dry spots, but do not mix.

Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is crisp and golden brown. Cool for 10 minutes, then serve warm or at room temperature with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Substitutions
- Yellow cake mix: Swap with butter golden, white cake mix, vanilla cake mix, or even strawberry cake mix for a different flavor.
- Strawberry pie filling: Try blueberry pie filling, cherry pie filling, or peach pie filling for other dump cake recipes. I actually have cake mix recipes for both of those versions!
- Unsalted butter: Salted butter works too. Just expect a slightly saltier topping.

Behind the Recipe
Dump cakes are one of my favorite shortcut desserts because they take almost no effort, but people always ask for the recipe afterward. My son has been known to sneak spoonfuls straight from the baking dish.
My top tip is to spread the melted butter over the top of the cake mix as evenly as possible. Dry spots on top of the cake mix can stay powdery after baking.

FAQ
This strawberry dump cake recipe is designed for canned strawberry pie filling. Fresh strawberries release more liquid and would need additional sugar and thickener adjustments.
Yes. You can easily halve this strawberry dump cake recipe and bake it in an 8x8-inch baking dish instead of a 9x13-inch dish. The bake time may be slightly shorter.
Usually that means the melted butter did not fully cover the dry cake mix. Spread the butter carefully over the top before baking.
