Ninja Creami Oreo Protein Ice Cream
Ninja Creami Oreo Protein Ice Cream

This Ninja Creami Oreo protein ice cream recipe is made with a Fairlife Core Power shake, stevia, instant pudding mix, and Oreo Thins.

This high-protein homemade ice cream recipe is designed for the Ninja Creami ice cream maker and has fewer calories, less fat, less carbohydrates, and more protein than regular ice cream.

You start with a simple vanilla ice cream and use the mix-in function to incorporate Oreo Thins cookies. The ice cream mixture freezes for 12 hours before processing, but it is worth the wait.

Fairlife protein shakes are made with lactose free, gluten-free, high-protein, and ultra-filtered milk. Pair this with sugar free instant vanilla pudding mix for a classic vanilla flavor with the perfect texture. You can even eat the entire pint.

    Ingredients

Ninja Creami Oreo Protein Ice Cream ingredients
    • Fairlife protein shake - Fat free, lactose free, high-protein shake. These are the large 14-ounce Core Power shakes, not the smaller 11.5-ounce Nutrition Plan shakes.
    • Stevia - Zero calorie sweetener blend to satisfy your sweet tooth
    • Instant pudding - Sugar free vanilla or french vanilla, for a creamy texture
    • Oreos Thins - These are thin, slim chocolate sandwich cookies

See the recipe card for quantities.

    Instructions

Ninja Creami Oreo Protein Ice Cream ingredients in a large mixing bowl

In a mixing bowl, add the protein shake, stevia, and pudding mix. Whisk until the stevia is dissolved and there are no lumps. The pudding mix will not fully dissolve.

The Ninja Creami Oreo Protein Ice Cream has bubbles that are settling down

Allow the bubbles to settle (about 1 minute) before pouring the mixture into a Creami pint.

Ninja Creami Oreo Protein Ice Cream mixture in a clean pint

Pour the mixture into a clean Creami pint. Cover it with a lid and freeze on a level surface for a minimum of 12 hours.

Frozen pint of vanilla protein ice cream

After freezing, remove the frozen pint from the freezer and remove the lid.

The Ninja Creami bowl assembly is inserted into the machine base

Put the opened pint into the outer bowl of the Ninja Creami machine, install the Creamerizer Paddle to the lid, and lock the lid assembly to the bowl. Slide the bowl assembly into the machine's motor base, twist it to the right to lock it into place, and select the Lite Ice Cream button.

The vanilla ice cream looks crumbly instead of smooth

After processing is complete, unlock and remove the bowl assembly from the ice cream maker and remove the lid. Re-spin if needed until you reach a creamy consistency.

Vanilla protein ice cream is processed and looks smooth in the pint

Lite ice cream recipes are low fat so they often appear icy or crumbly after the first spin. Re-spin once or twice for a creamy texture.

Oreo halves are placed into the hole in the center of the ice cream

With a spoon, create a small tunnel in the center of the ice cream to the bottom of the pint. Add the halved Oreos to the hole. Reassemble the bowl and process using the Mix-In program.

    Serve immediately.

Note: The consistency of the ice cream is closer to soft serve than regular ice cream. You can get some soft scoops when served immediately, but the ice cream softens quickly.

    Substitutions

Protein shake: 14 ounces of any protein shake will do the trick such as a Fairlife shake, Pure Protein shake, or Premier Protein shake. Note that these shakes are smaller than 14 ounces.

Sweetener - Try other sugar substitutes such as Splenda, Swerve, and monk fruit with erythritol.

Pudding mix - The instant pudding mix enhances the flavor and acts as a binder for a scoopable consistency. You can use vanilla, french vanilla, or cheesecake. You can skip it for an icy texture (but add ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste for flavor), use full-sugar Jell-O mix instead of sugar-free, or use ½ teaspoon of guar gum instead. I hear Angel Delight (for my UK readers) is similar to Jell-O though I have not tested it.

Oreo Thins - You can use regular Oreos or gluten-free Oreos. You can also use low-calorie/high-protein sandwich cookies such as Highkey sugar-free sandwich cookies or Lenny & Larry's The Complete Cremes protein cookies for better macros.

    Variations

Traditional ice cream: For a full-fat recipe, try my Ninja Creami Cookies and Cream Ice Cream. This rich version uses cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, whole milk, and heavy cream to create a classic high-fat vanilla ice cream.

Chocolate: Use a chocolate Core Power shake for a chocolate base or try my Fairlife 2% chocolate milk ice cream.

Protein powder - If you don't have access to Fairlife protein shakes, you can make your own protein shake with milk and protein powder. I recommend a high-protein, fat-free or reduced-fat milk such as Fairlife, Horizon Organic Protein, or Kroger CARBmaster. Then use add a scoop of vanilla, vanilla bean, french vanilla, or cookies and cream whey protein powder or oreo plant based protein powder. Regular milk and nondairy milk such as almond milk, coconut milk, and oat milk can be used but will change the macros significantly.

Mix-Ins: Try your favorite mix-ins such as nuts, chocolate chips, pretzels, M&M's, or cereal. You can try another kind of cookies too like chocolate chip.

    Equipment

    • Ninja Creami, Ninja Creami Breeze, or Ninja Creami Deluxe
    • Large mixing bowl
    • Whisk

    Storage

If you have leftovers, smooth and flatten the top of the ice cream with a spoon or spatula and cover it with the storage lid before refreezing.

The ice cream will harden as it re-freezes, so you will need to process it again on the Lite Ice Cream setting. Processing the pint a second time will break down the mix-ins further.

    For Best Results

Below are a few important tips for getting the best results out of your machine.

    • Upright freezer - Chest freezers get too cold. If your Ninja Creami pint container is too cold, you may get a wall of ice inside your pint that won't process.
    • Flat surface - The pint should sit level in your freezer. Processing pints frozen at an angle could damage the machine or blade.
    • Max fill - Only fill your pint to the max fill line. You can exceed the max fill line when adding mix-ins.
    • Half the pint - With the Deluxe model you can process just the top half of the pint and save the rest for later. You can also process the top half with one mix in, scoop it out, and then process the bottom half with a different mix-in.

See your Ninja Creami user manual and safety instructions prior to use.

    FAQ

Can you freeze less than 24 hours Ninja CREAMi?

Yes, lite ice cream (low-fat ice cream) can freeze for 12 to 24 hours instead of the full 24 hours.
